Problem Solving in Kindergarten!

I have photographed some of the problems we have worked on in Kindergarten since January for you to see. The children read the problem, make sure they understand the ? and start to solve the problem. We use lots of math language, numbers, diagrams, t-charts and pictures to show our "mathematical thinking"! I also use a rubric to assess how your child does when they have finished their work. In Kindergarten we use this from time to time as a check-in to see how we are progressing. I have also put a picture of the rubric on this blog entry for you to see.
Your child will be bringing home their Problem Solving Folder on Friday for you to see. Please be sure to send it back to Kindergarten on Monday! Thanks again so much for your continued support and cooperation!

The children have been doing lots of writing using their pencils so that their pictures are drawn carefully with lots of detail and labels! The children are writing independently remembering to leave spaces in between their words, using punctuation and even when to use capital letters. Nice job!

Listen to our Scientific Ideas!

Does it Sink or Float?

This afternoon we experimented with water. We observed that heavy objects sank, while others floated.
Here is a list of what we discovered about water:
1. Water is wet.
2. Water is a liquid.
3. Water helps things grow.
4. We need to drink lots of water.
5. Water comes from the rain.
6. Water is in the air.
7. Fish need the water to make oxygen to breathe
8. Water is wavy and can move real fast!
